Garden Sauna FAQs

Will my wooden sauna need much maintenance and cleaning?

Very little. We recommend mild detergents to wash the seating, or simply fresh clean water. Like all other Cashen products, the wood we use is known for its durability, so the exterior requires no maintenance, though you can apply Danish Oil to maintain wood colour if you prefer that look.

How long will my garden sauna last outdoors?

A minimum of 15-20 years, though many last longer. Douglas fir and Western red cedar are very durable and require no maintenance.

How long should I stay in my sauna?

15-20 mins maximum per session.

Can saunas be dangerous?

Saunas are generally extremely safe and have many positive, invigorating health benefits. However, you should be aware of the following:

  • Don’t use a sauna if you’re pregnant, drunk or using recreational drugs
  • Consult your doctor before using if you’re on prescription drugs or you suffer from heart disease, diabetes, or other conditions that affect blood pressure
  • Leave sauna immediately if you feel dizzy, sleepy or uncomfortable and get out into some fresh air to cool down
  • Always sauna with another person. (It’s a social experience, anyway!)
  • Don’t stay in too long: 15-20 mins max per session
  • Stay hydrated. Drink water before and after your sauna session
